So I had COVID-19. On the 8th of December, I felt off. Had aches and pains. Went to the doctor. Did full blood work. Serology didn’t indicate COVID. Was sent off with antibiotics, Vitamin C and painkillers as an infection was detected.
9th December, I attempted to get out of bed. Dizzy, achy and weak. Called in to work and took the day off. Slept on and off and felt better by the end of the day. 10th December, colleague said she was going to do a PCR test so I went with in her car.
11th December, she tested positive. Hadn’t received my results (no news is good news right?). Later that evening, we were told we all had to have mandatory tests on the 12th (yes I had had one but still no results). 12th December, I go to another test.
Test 1 result came out evening of the 12th. Negative. Phew! I cook, I chilled. All is good in my world abi? 13th December, I am still taking it easy. I feel fine. 6am (Ish) on 14th December, I get results of test 2. Positive. I drive to the hospital to find out what’s next.
Did a CT scan. Lungs looked good. I get antibiotics, Vitamins C & D and Zinc. Got a thermometer and was advised to buy a pulse oximeter and to record my temperature and SpO2 levels. Sent home to isolate. I come home, get changed and plonk myself in front of the TV.
Still no symptoms and aches have even stopped! Didn’t have much of an appetite so I only ate in small bits because I knew I needed to. 17th December, I start experiencing excruciating pains in my stomach. Ended up in hospital. Zinc was wreaking havoc on my gastric system.
My body was killing me. Throwing up, using the loo. Ribs and back hurting. Lord! COVID-19 didn’t do a number on me. It was my ulcers that decided they wanted to take me down. Felt better a few days after. 22nd December, went to do another PCR test. Tested negative. Yaaaas!
I did everything I possibly could. Wore masks, sanitized, practiced social distancing but that bitch ‘Rona still got me. I got off relatively lightly. Some people didn’t. Some died. COVID is real and it is out there. Today, after a long time, I am going back to work.
I am going out after isolating for 3 weeks. I am apprehensive but bills need paying. Please be careful out there. Please wear a mask. Please take due care and caution. Do it for you, your loved ones and for the people you will come in contact with.
