1. I’ve tried to articulate many times why it is that I find the current situation in #Ethiopia so deeply devastating & why I think all of us should feel the same devastation & speak out against it. It seems I have failed in my attempt. I’ve been told many times that
2. I am biased, that I am not looking at the full picture, that I am too certain of my views, that my conviction on the matter is too rigid, that I should remain open minded... I’ve attempted to take these criticisms to heart. In that, I have failed as well.
3. I remain devastated about the war in #Tigray. I remain rigid in my conviction that this war was unnecessary & avoidable. But I am not here to make the argument that this is not a just war (it isn’t), but to state for the umpteenth time, that war is NOT normal.
4. While the powerful may choose to enter it to serve their pursuit for power, people like you & I should be repulsed by it. Our instinctive response to war should be a clear and loud - NO. Those with ideological, political & economic agendas to pursue, will engage in
5. intellectual, philosophical & moral arguments to justify this war. They will bend info in whatever ways they see fit to convince you that the deaths of thousands of men, women & children & destruction of cities & towns will somehow bring forth a brighter future for the nation.
6. Our collective, instinctive, response to this should be a clear and loud - NO.

What else can I be certain of, if not the idea that every other human-being is just like me… that their fear is as intense, their pain as deep & their hope for the future as zealous?
7. It is by pure luck that you & I are sitting safely behind our screens & not running to escape death. Think how imaginative you’d be to find ways to end this war, if it was you who risked death? Think how generous your compromise, if it was your children who risked trauma?
8. Think how thunderous your scream, if it was your home that risked ruin? Would you really be so quick to say, this war is necessary? I'd think not.

Ethiopia needs a stronger voice of peace that functions as a pulse for the nation, consistently beating - War. Is. Not. Normal.
