I think the racist/anti-racist dichotomy is a good idea because if embraced it has the following potential benefits:

- focuses on actions
- focuses on consequences
- de-emphasizes feelings and intentions
- in the aggregate, most of our actions would be understood as racist
One of the bigger problems facing meaningful racial justice is the often overwhelming desire by white people to focus on our particular status as racists or not racist. My hope is that a shift in our thinking to actions and consequences will help alleviate this focus.
The flip side of this problem is the constant moralizing around racism. It reinforces the problem above without necessarily leading to anti-racist action.
The truth, IMO, is that we live in a racist society so most of us are racist. Very few of us are able to resist social forces very well. Personal improvement is great, but at the end of the day, if black lives matter, that means we need to take meaningful action.
