Ok I'm gonna do a Year in Writing thread for myself, because 1 year ago I had never published anything and 2 years ago I was about ready to give up on writing, and one of the things I've learned from this year is that we gotta celebrate the good stuff when it happens

This fall, the amazing @k_mingchang and @rosieskelton published "Rabbit Heart" for @WaxwingMag, which I first wrote during K-Ming's wonderful @sevillawriters wkshp. It's about grandmothers, the myths that shaped my childhood, and alt endings

I screamed aloud when @JellyfishReview took this flash of mine, "Beach Day," about a daughter coming to terms with her parents' failings and the strange, sad beauty of beaches in the winter

My first-ever fiction acceptance was from @splitlipthemag for this story, "Green Frog," one of the first pieces I ever workshopped @newschoolwriting. Special thanks to @LongformFiction for selecting it as the pick of the week

I so loved working w/the @VIDA_lit team on my first fiction pub, "After the Party," about microaggressions, academia, and all the ways in which women are expected to make themselves smaller for the men in their lives

I wrote the first draft of this short essay about remembering summers past during the first month of the pandemic. Thank you so much to @litmagazine for publishing it in their Corona Chronicle series. https://www.litmagazine.org/2020/06/05/in-remembrance-of-summer-by-gina-chung/ (6/10)
I also got some some recognition in contests, which has NEVER happened before, including @CraftLiterary's Conflict Contest (longlisted), @LAReview's Literary Awards (first runner-up in short fiction), and @BlackWarriorRev's Flash Fiction Contest (finalist)!!!

And I'm so, so ecstatic to have work coming out in 2021 from some dream journals that I love and esteem, including @kenyonreview, @Gulf_Coast, @FrictionSeries, @Wigleaf, and @FugueJournal

I'm so grateful to the lit mags and journals out there publishing, promoting, and championing emerging writers like me—they really are the lifeblood of this community. If you can, consider supporting your faves w/donations, tips, or subscriptions! (9/10)
I'll stop now before I get too schmaltzy, but: it's been such a strange, difficult year, and through it all, books, stories, and being able to connect with other writers On Here have made me feel so much less alone. Here's to more words, more stories. To keeping on. (10/10)
