Day 2, #90DaysOfProse

Despite our microwave culture of success, change doesn't happen overnight. It took me 10 months to change careers from Music Supervisor to Software Developer. It was worth it though.

Learning how to code fundamentally changed my life for the better. 👇
I had a full-time job during my transition, so I had to make the most of my Mornings, Nights, and Weekends. I am definitely not a morning person, but I got up at 6 am every day because that's when I was most effective.
Begin with the end in mind.

I wanted to learn to code and change careers because I wanted economic mobility and the freedom to solve problems for anyone anywhere in the world.

Why do you want to change careers?
Clearly defining why you want to make a big move is incredibly important to help keep yourself motivated on a long journey.
If you were terrible at math in high school, struggled to process complex topics quickly, and don’t have a college degree, you’re not alone.
I almost flunked just about every math class in high school.

I studied music composition in college and dropped out for financial reasons, so I don't have a college degree. Don't get discouraged because your background doesn't fit a certain mold. Don't worry about fitting in.
Of course, I have made several mistakes along the way.

Here are a few you should definitely avoid.

- Don’t learn alone or in secret

- Don’t be afraid to say “I Don’t Know” — you’re not an expert yet

- Don’t try to boil the ocean and learn it all in your first year
Are you a self-taught developer? Are you currently learning how to code? Would love to hear your story. #DEVCommunity #CodeNewbie #Developers
