Earlier this month, President Donald Trump made the right call when he decided to veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Congress has made the wrong call by failing to sustain the President’s veto.
The NDAA should have focused on military preparedness to ensure that the United States armed forces are the most powerful on earth. Instead, the $900 billion NDAA placates Democrats and Neocons within our own party by including progressive policies and by perpetuating endless war
The bill restricts the President’s authority as commander-in-chief to move troops throughout the globe. The Cheney Amendment was included to prevent President Trump’s announced draw down to 2,500 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq by Jan. 15th, 2021.
The NDAA funds “pilot programs for alternative energy vehicles” and creates permanent bureaucrats to write reports based on identity politics. We send money for gender equality programs to the Afghan Security Forces, while also sending millions around the world for early...
childhood development programs. There is also a requirement for all small businesses to register with a federal agency even if they have nothing to do with the military.

The serious business of funding our men and women in uniform is no place to insert partisan politics.
Instead of retooling the National Defense Authorization Act to be focused on national defense, House Democrats joined by many Republicans voted today to override the president’s veto.
HFC will always stand with our men + women in uniform, as we did earlier this month when we called for a veto. While we hoped to work across the aisle to improve this year’s NDAA, we will not stop fighting to ensure defense legislation put our troops and the American people first
