The reason I beef with Glenn is because I do actually believe that red-brown alliances have a kind of power, it's just awful. Like a Tucker Carlson, Tulsi Gabbard, GG alliance is totally imaginable and it would even unite a lot USians but in the WORST possible way.
Im sorry but national conservatism with pro-Putin characteristics is just not a step forward. The idea that it would somehow clear out corruption and be anti-imperialist is deranged. It would be nativist and genocide denialist with hard borders + surveillance.
This is where @mutual_ayyde s terrifying prediction of a conservative central economic planning movement begins to look more terrifyingly possible. Worst of many possible worlds.
Like Dugin is right about a lot of things (other parts are beyond disconnected from reality) it's just an ultra-violent fascist patchwork not some multipolar anti-imperialist crusade.
So then like others in these networks they slander anyone who critiques them as being pro-the imperial core just bc you're against their shitty vision. It's a false dichotomy.
But anyways that he called me a neonazi for bringing up this possibility is I think more telling than anything.
Like okay imagine they get in power and pardon Assange. A bipartisan success! But wait, then whistleblowers start popping up in THEIR regime. These are obviously saboteurs and with our increased political control, we can clamp down on them finally!
highest steel man is that they end all US foreign wars thus justifying any other fascist decay in sheer life saving. Well the US economy is built on war. Gonna need new trade partners. What about when those new partners like Iran and RU enter expansion wars. Same shit dif look.
Im not saying ending war isn't a good goal. Obviously it is! But it's just not a simple problem and being anti US wars specifically is very different from being against ALL war. The US just has a current monopoly.
This is to say nothing of how inherently fragile red-brown alliances and patchwork fiefdoms more broadly are. When everyone is hardcore ingroup preference power hungry and yr alliance is very fickle and populist, their will be constant conflict and war!!!
Also obviously I'm not saying that glem, tucker, and tulsi are nazbols lol Im just trying to tease out some of the underlying tendencies at play and draw them out to their finales.
One of the big tensions here for me personally, that I'd like to talk about with @joeyayoub as part of our upcoming podcast episode. Is how can we do broad based and formidable internationalism without falling into red-brown populism traps? It's a fine line to walk.
Many are thinking about this in, I think, good ways though. https://twitter.com/jnchien/status/1343644382419795969?s=20
