ALT HOT TAKE: you're better off perfecting your own samples, networking and making your own content than applying to the diversity programs. https://twitter.com/KirkWrites79/status/1343646868190896128
The math is not on your side. There are perhaps 50 spots for thousands of applications, so YOU HAVE A LESS THAN ONE PERCENT CHANCE OF GETTING IN.
They also require you to do a lot of work that has very little to do with the job of being a writer. For instance, no staffing meeting requires a personal statement.
So, apply if you like. If it works out, WONDERFUL, that's a huge achievement, but for everyone else: Tweet something hilarious, write that sexy pilot and get it on @theblcklst, make that viral short, try to get that WA job bc 'the programs' are far from the only way.
And I love @KirkWrites79 !! Listen to everything he says! This is just a difference of opinion from our own lived experiences.
