So I thought #WonderWoman1984
was....fine? Just ok? I don’t know.
After hearing all the takes about how it wasn’t good (or even actively bad), I went into the movie with lowered expectations. I was anticipating a poor movie, and while it’s certainly flawed, it wasn’t bad.

Anyone who says it’s as bad as BvS or the original Suicide Squad is out to lunch. It was not that bad.
At the same time, I think it’s absolutely fair to say that it came nowhere close to matching the first Wonder Woman movie.

I definitely think people were expecting a great sequel after the first movie did so well and got so much praise. That’s not to say they should’ve have been expecting a great follow up.
Perhaps that first movie was a “lightning caught in a bottle” situation.

I don’t have a ton of complaints about the casting of the central characters (the main players all did a solid job imo). I think the bigger issues were the length (it was too long) and the story.

I’m probably missing some of the plot holes in the movie, but they were DEFINITELY there. When Max Lord was granting everyone’s wishes, why weren’t people wishing for things like world peace, or no nukes? I’m sure plenty would be. Did he ignore those people? #WonderWoman1984

When Max Lord renounced his original wish....did they restore the stone....thing? Did Lord and Cheetah suffer any consequences for their actions? Again, those are just some, but I would think I’m missing a few.

There were also a number of moments throughout that I thought were very....cartoonish? Is that the best way to say it? Definitely moments where I thought, “That was a little wacky”.

I would say #WW84
is firmly in the middle in terms of the DC cinematic universe. Better than BvS and the original Suicide Squad. Nowhere near as good as the first Wonder Woman, Shazam, or Aquaman.

In terms of my rankings of the DC cinematic universe, I would say it’s actually kinda close to the Harley Quinn movie, and if given the choice to pick one or the other, I’d probably pick Harley Quinn. #WW84

The big change I might’ve made is make Cheetah the main villain and move Max Lord to the secondary villain.
I know that would mess up one of the main points of the movie (Lord as a Trump analogue), and Pedro Pascal did a really good job, but I would’ve made that change.
