Some people still fail to understand how important it is that bitcoin stays #1. If Ethereum would ever replace bitcoin, everyone would ask themselves if Ethereum can get replaced too. There will be very little credence to the "digital gold" story. Win the battle, lose the war.
Your main goal should be to at most live in some kind of symbiosis with bitcoin. You should not aspire to replace it unless there really is no other option. A short-term victory for you, but to the detriment of the guarantees the cryptocurrency community can ever make claims to.
This is why I'll stick to mainly championing bitcoin for as long as it is viable. Bitcoin is home team. Nothing can ever be such a slam dunk as bitcoin can be. Anything else would be to settle for less..
That said, sometimes the bitcoin community are blinded by their own perceived greatness. They don't recognize that there are innovations on the periphery that are very useful to study and learn from. Bitcoin is not the ultimate leader in all branches of cryptocurrency innovation.

I feel like people are not reading this thread properly, e.g. "unless there is no other option" etc. The goal shouldn't be to constantly overthrow the #1. Work on the #1 until no longer viable. You guys already feel this way about Ethereum and are hypocrites for not realizing it.
Or is perhaps the reason people don't get that I'm saying that I prefer to *improve* on bitcoin as far as possible before shilling an alternative? (I have a wishlist of BIPs). I'm not saying you should shill a rock with unfinished capabilities.
OK, I can't answer all of your comments today. But I appreciate your feedback.
I think my perspective is influenced a lot by having had to explain cryptocurrency so much to retail/common man in the media in Sweden, listening to what their insecurities about what we're doing are.
50% of the answers here are comparisons of my tweet to "MySpace vs. Facebook". I'm sorry, but to me, this is just evidence that you don't really understand the conversation. Example:
