Who are the individuals whose labor supports those out “””living their lives”””? The custodians, service workers, retail & theme park employees, etc? Those most likely to live paycheck-to-paycheck and are forced to interact with the public?

I work in a mall 50+ hours a week. I see 100s of people daily “””living their lives!!!”Folks are buying outfits for vacations/weddings/parties to “””enjoy life!!!”. Nothing I sell is critical to survival. But there’s often a line to get into my store.

Masks are only effective at REDUCING (not eliminating) spread IF worn properly, IF it fits & seals around the face, IF it is the right material, & IF one remains socially distant. Like hell ANY public place has 100% compliance.

Y’all, at no point in the last 9 months have I not been eaten away by anger from how this country has treated COVID. Most think half-assed slapping a mask on part of the time gives them permission to do whatever.

There is nothing more American than putting all of our hopes into a vaccine — something we can market and commodify — rather than making drastic changes to our daily lives as a means of investing in our common welfare.
Obv, the vaccine will save 1000s of lives & curb spread. But it’s not an instant fix: it will be months (years?) until COVID is contained. But many see the promise of a vaccine as permission to keep going out & “”live their life””. How many more will die before herd immunity?
So if you feel defensive because you pick up on judgement from others when you share how you are “””living your life”””? Maybe sit with that feeling for a bit.
