A couple of summers ago, I went on vacation with friends in Palm Springs.
We got a luxury rental house with a huge pool and legit partied for 5 days.
Most of the people there were gay men

Over the course of the days we were there, the men misgendered each other and referred to each other with terms that would otherwise be deemed derogatory.
Here’s my point:
It never occurred to me (nor would I want to) to refer to ANY of them in those ways.

I understood it as language of a community to which I did not belong.
So it’s hard for me to understand why White people fight SO HARD to say the n-word
And# use the fact that Black people say it as a defense.

On some level, I think part of it is that White people don’t like anyone telling them what to do...especially Black people
That’s why they won’t wear masks
But it’s more that that I think
They REALLY want to be able to say it
