Stardew Valley Tips/Tricks Thread
Clear some space on your farm and plant the turnip seeds provided at the beginning of the game! You can also head to Pierre’s store and purchase different seeds. Don’t worry though about buying a TON at the start or the game. Also there are different seeds each season!
Don’t scythe all the grass on your farm until you have a silo!! When you have a silo and scythe the grass it will turn into hay for your animals! This is especially important to save up because all the grass will disappear come winter.
Take some time to scythe ALL grass before winter hits!! and also purchase a heater from Marnie for you animals - this is simply placed inside the barn and coop to keep your animals warm during winter!
Keep on fishing! It will get easier I promise. If you continue fishing and using crab pots - you will be able to level up your fishing level which will help make fishing easier! Also upgrading from the training rod is a must!! Willy will sell an upgrade once you level up.
I find when fishing that using a combination of little clicks and longer clicks/holding button down work best!
Be sure not to ignore the tv in your house or cabin!! There’s always helpful tips and tricks (you can even learn recipes for later on!)
Use the tv to your advantage when upgrading your watering can! If the weather station says it’s going to be raining tomorrow go upgrade your watering can! (Or you can wait until winter when you won’t be needing it)
Make sure to give gifts on birthdays!! You can check the calendar in front of Pierre’s or later in the game you will be able to have one in your house. Giving gifts on birthdays will give you a big boost to their friendship!
It can be harder to give gifts in your first year so this is always something you can focus on later in the game when you have more items. Don’t feel pressure to do this right away.
There are certain items that villagers will either love, like, feel neutral, dislike or hate. You can always look up on the stardew valley wiki for what specific gifts someone likes!
Upgrade your bag! When I start a new save I always prioritize upgrading my bag at Pierre’s. It costs 2000g so save up!
Fix the bridge at the beach as soon as you can!! There are some really great items to forage on the other side that sell for a good price! (Some might be required for community center bundles too)
Look out for wiggly worms on the ground! If you find some equip your hoe and hoe the spot! You never know what you will find! (Sometimes resources used for crafting or items that can be donated to the museum)
Upgrade your tools!! As you progress you will notice your tools aren’t the greatest.. save up 5 cooper ore for the first upgrade. The two tools I focus on upgrading are the pickaxe and axe!
Once your axe is a high enough level you can break a log that leads to a secret forest! The logs there will unlock a certain material used to get a stable.
If you find an item you think could be donated to the museum put your cursor over and see if it mentions Gunther. If it does be sure to donate it as you can get some cool rewards!
Watch your energy and health bars! (Especially in the mines!) If you notice they are getting low, you can always check by putting your cursor over them to see the number for example 4/250
Also try and make the most out of your stamina each day! If it’s late and you still have some stamina to spare go knock down some trees and collect wood or do some late night fishing!
Using your sword or scythe will not use any stamina!!
When you knock down certain types of trees you will get seeds these can be replanted to grow a new tree or save them to craft field snacks - these are great for early game when you are low on energy!
You will have to decide between bats or mushrooms (trying not to spoil) – PICK MUSHROOMS! They sell better!!
I always find myself turning on in settings - always show tool hit location. It makes it much easier when using your tools! It will show a red square around the tile you are on.
Always check to see if something is needed for a community center bundle before you sell it! You can check your bundles easily by accessing your inventory - it should be on the right side.
Most importantly have fun and don't feel rushed or pressured to get everything done! It may feel slow at the start but once you start progressing and unlocking new things it will be hard to put down! - If you have any questions about the game feel free to dm me
You will get some mixed seeds from scything weeds. Plant them when you get them and see what grows! There is also a special type of weed that will always give you a mixed seed (it looks kinda swirly)
If a villager or your pet traps you in a space just keep walking and eventually you will get by them
In the mines you will find crates. You can use your sword or scythe to break them open! There are some fun goodies you might find
Keep an eye on what day it is in the month before planting seeds. Different seeds take different amounts of time to fully grow. All crops will wilt if it’s not the correct season !!
Certain crops will require a trellis to grow (dont worry they are included when you plant them) be careful when planting them as you cannot walk through them! I find it best to plant trellis crops in rows
