Where does our obsession with making sure kids spend as much time as possible in school come from? We have the shortest school holidays in Europe (6 compared to loads having 12 or more weeks) which just seems punitive. Is there data to back this up as actually useful/effective?
I remember slt from various schools pointing to stats about attendance and grade outcomes, but pretty sceptical about the argument that we shouldn't lockdown because of 'missed education'.
Tho this isn't to say there aren't v legit things to worry about if schools are closed. I just don't think that missing four weeks or so of in school education is that big a deal compared to everything else.
