Every time anyone in government speaks about frontline healthcare workers being infected or dying like they care, I can’t stop myself from remembering when the healthcare workers had to protest against poor working conditions & for PPE.
When the recklessness of people is spoken of, I think about the schools that received subpar sanitisers or no equipment at all. The reports we read of principals begging their various provincial depts for equipment before reopening.
When people are spoken down to for not washing their hands or sanitising, I think of the people without water and the how over we saw certain retailers spike up prices of hand sanitiser in a country where the majority already lives in poverty.
I’m also obviously thinking about the choice to praise the decision to close up & how it’s spared us, but ignore that the necessary compensation to see people through it was not delivered. Hell, even food parcels were stolen by officials in that same government.
Anyway, I could go on & on about what’s on my mind when I hear what’s said & what’s unsaid. That would take me the whole night. But point is, there are things I cannot help but think about every time a government official speaks because wowza there’s a lot of holes to be poked
