Listen, I’m not surprised when pastors cause racial or spiritual trauma due to a failure to grasp power dynamics & racial awareness. They don’t teach either in seminary. What frustrates me is how few actually want help. How few are willing to acknowledge ineptitude & seek counsel
I don’t assess a pastor’s ministry or level of “safety” based on a failure, I assess it based on how he handles failure. The greatest enemy to reconciliation & unity is pride. Pastors WILL fail sheep, but how willing are they to do be better? Covering up failures = unsafe.
“I am so sorry. I failed you, I failed our God (list specifics). Please forgive me. I’m committed to learning how to do better. In your eyes, what can I do to for restitution?”
So many Christians wouldn’t be carrying spiritual trauma if a Pastor was willing to say these things.
