I decided to share my thoughts about folks moving out of the Bay Area in a huff with their millions that they made here.

So folks are starting to move out of the Bay Area. Not surprising, there have always been booms and busts here.
Yes starting with the gold rush. The thing is that starting with the gold rush another practice started, giving back. Those who made $$$ so far have tended to create & support institutions. Mainly educational & cultural ones but also hospitals & others.
Name a well-known one & you can trace it to somebody making money then wanting to "give back." Stanford University, the San Francisco Zoo, all of the museums, libraries, and public media.
I could name more because at some point I and my family have interacted with lots of these places. As a guest, a donor, a volunteer, or a member.
So now that folks are leaving, I want to ask who did you give to? Where are you a member? Where did you volunteer? What civil society groups did you support, found, form, or engage with? If the answer is none,

As you leave are you complaining about how horrible city &/or regional governments are? Did you participate? Did you vote in local elections? Did you talk with candidates? Did you join a political group?
If the answer is no to these questions. Then please restrain yourself from talking about a system you never cared to even engage in.
If you were was busy building a startup, investing, creating wealth....I know it is not easy but citizenship requires some sort of participation.
I have started to call my local officials. I call about potholes, to support my neighbors that are living in the streets, police reform, & public education to name a few.
Did you ever call someone about Muni, BART, Samtrans, or Caltrain?
Policy and the enactment of the policy depend on you letting folks know what is important to the greater community.
