Punjab has already been falling behind other neighbouring North Indian States economically. Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand, all have higher per capita income than Punjab. And just 20 years ago, Punjab had the second highest per capita income among all states in
the country. Fast forward to today, 10 states have higher per capita incomes than Punjab.

With the recent frenzy of violence in the farmers' protest, especially the targeting and inconveniencing of commercial interests, some people in Punjab are setting up the state to become
even more of a laggard. If things continue like this, then don't be surprised if in 10 years or 15 years, even states belonging to the so called 'BIMARU' belt start overtaking Punjab in incomes and opportunities. Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in particular are inching ever closer
to overtaking Punjab.

Those people who are going to be left behind in Punjab who are unwilling or unable to emigrate, really need to think hard about what their tantrums will mean for the future.
