I’ve been offline for health reasons, but some thoughts on #nashvillebombing:

In Tennessee, we’ve had politicians demonize mosques in the community, attack Black Lives Matter as “terrorists,” and fear monger about immigration as “an invasion.” Interesting they’re silent now.

This is the third terrorist bombing in Nashville in the past 63 years, but since the terrorists were white we don’t refer to it as such— we should.

-1957 Hattie Cotton Elementary for integration

-1960 Civil Rights lawyer Z. Alexander Looby’s home

-2020 2nd Ave on Christmas

I’ve noticed some who seek to use this tragedy to promote the ideology of “Blue Lives Matter” and pro-policing. While we’re grateful for the actions of the individual officers, this doesn’t negate a key lesson of this year that our overall system of policing is still harmful.

Finally, white supremacy has terrorized this nation since its inception, and until we reckon with that fact (rather than normalize it) neither our community, nor America will ever be safe.

Healing begins truth.
