If choosing not to teach classic and predominantly White authors is "banning" and "censorship," what is it called when BIPOC authors are systematically excluded from even being published and don't even get the privilege of curriculum discussions? #DisruptTexts
And to be clear, the premise is incorrect. Because choosing not to teach classic and predominantly White authors is NOT, in fact, banning or censorship. You cannot teach everything. You have to choose.
Whatever “canon” or curriculum there is must be dynamic and responsive and offer the “best” of what we can give kids (however we define “best”).
I refuse to believe that the “best” we have to offer was written X many years ago by a select group of predominantly White authors.

Inclusivity is not a threat. It’s growth.
