“Municipalization” (I know it’s not a word) of public schools works hand-in-hand with redlining & racial segregation in housing to ensure schools in predominantly white neighborhoods are far better funded than those serving communities of color.

Which is why in virtually every city, dilapidated neighborhoods have dilapidated schools.

Public education should start from the premise that the public good is served when ALL kids get the best chance to thrive, & acknowledge that it is “penny wise, pound foolish” to deny resources to poor children now,

Public education isn’t supposed to be about making sure YOUR kid gets a good education. It should be about making sure ALL kids get a good one, because that’s how the investment actually pays dividends!
