Tips for singers ✨ (feel free to add)
A THREAD:
Firstly find your voice , don’t fall into the trap of trying to sound like someone else. You have to stay true to yourself , sooner or later you won’t be able to maintain it if it’s not you.
DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER VOCALISTS. Learning from them can be beneficial however the danger comes when you belittle yourself because of what they can do
Try not to have dairy products before a recording or a performance.
VOCAL WARMUPS ARE IMPORTANT. Don’t rush into singing.
When singing, shape the letters with your mouth , you’ll get a better sound. (Articulation) Also just opening your mouth more in general helps with projection.
Facial expressions/ body language change your sound and just your overall performance. You may think you look stupid but it’s what helps the audience connect with you.
Longer notes require more air. You should be engaging with your diaphragm.
Belting is not shouting. It’s projection of chest voice. When incorrectly done it can damage your voice.
If your throat is hurting after you sing you’ve probably been straining on certain notes.
Sometimes less is more. Learn where to place riffs and runs. Not every space needs to be filled. Placement is important.
Vocals are always better when you’re not overthinking it.
You want to take people on a journey as you sing. So controlling your dynamics is important. Know when to fall back and when to give more.
Take your time , feel the backing if there is one and if there isn’t keep a pulse in mind. Using your hand to tap ect
If you’re shaking widen your stance , it will help balance you.
Listen to the music !!!!! Listen to the notes. Many singers don’t listen and that’s why they don’t perform as well. Musicians are there to accompany us but we must all stay connected.
If you are a singer you should try to learn basic terminology

Learn about the song you’re going to sing. You need to connect with the lyrics. Not only will that put you at ease but it will help you give the message you’re supposed to give.
Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. Dont be afraid to be raw. Let down the facade and soon your voice will be free
Tension in the body translates to tension in the voice. Relax-
:) I’ve been singing for over 11 years so these are just some things I’ve learnt along the way from conductors , vocal coaches and just my own experiences. ✨✨✨✨✨
