Modernity banked on nationalism while selling individualism, post-modernity banks on internationalism while atomizing the individuality itself : the more a unbelieving/heterodox ideology wants to be universal in theory, the less it permits it in practice.

Modern Europe was pushing for individualism but also needed nationalism to sustain its expansion (wars in Europe/colonies outside Europe), while individualism disconnects one not only from the nation, but from the family.

Like the postmodern West promotes internationalism for neoliberal interests, but how someone who has not even a genuine identity - nation, religion, ... even gender - transcend himself for some nebulous "international" agenda ?
