A national media outlet just asked me whether the suicide bombing was domestic terrorism. I said yes. We don't know the details yet, but with the complexity of this bombing, there must have been an ideological agenda. 1/x
Before you @ me, the FBI defines domestic terrorism as "Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature." 2/x
Whether the bomber was against AT&T, 5G, Christmas, tourism, Ds or Rs, COVID restrictions, etc., the decision to blow up an RV in the middle of downtown was to make a point about something. Whatever it was, it fits the domestic terrorism definition. 3/x
We also talked about the "this guy's different..he's not McVeigh..he wasn't trying to kill people" argument. This is a distinction with no difference. The bomber absolutely knew the chance of mass death was high -- hence the recorded warning. 4/x
What we have seen shows the bomber knew the risk to human life was high and his decision to go through with it shows he had little or no regard for human life. He gets no credit from me for having blared the warning. He was willing to take lives to make his point. 5/x
The reporter asked me what's next for Nashville. I told him those buildings have been there since the 1800s, and seen wars and floods and now an epidemic. This suicide bombing won't define us. Nashville will rebuild and keep moving forward. 6/6
