This misses four big changes to the GOP that have more or less become party consensus.
1. China hawkishness
2. Capitulation on Great Society entitlements
3. Immigration restriction (varying shades)
4. Shift away from fighting over marriage https://twitter.com/amyewalter/status/1343595869346672643
The Biden admin will chafe against 1, but it enjoys broad public support. Some GOP elites will push back on two, but demographics and coalition pressures will blunt any of those efforts. The precise shape of 3 and 4 are up in the air and could be shaped by reaction to Biden.
Areas now more open to intramural contestation thanks to Trump:
1. International trade
2. Use of force abroad
3. Inevitability/shape of federal intervention in public education
The party still doesn't have a consensus healthcare answer. Energy will be back on the front burner over the next half decade; updating is needed. For all the joking about infrastructure week, the GOP should lean into the issue set.
