FILM STUDY THREAD: Christian Wood defensive percentiles against the Blazers

- Isolation (4 possessions, 1/4 shooting allowed)
- Post-up (5 possessions, 3/5 shooting allowed)
- Drop Coverage (17 possessions, 1 point per possession, 41% of possessions resulted in a score)
Video of all 4 possessions where Christian Wood defended isolations. The key for Wood is to pressure high and funnel the offensive player towards the help defense. A secondary help defender ready to cut off the drive once Wood takes away the pull-up or perimeter shot.
2 consecutive possessions of drop coverage against Lillard: On-ball defender fights through the screen while the Big [Wood] drops back to protect the paint.

Remember, even in drop, you can have the Big come out higher to meet Lillard. Houston made the adjustment (next tweet).
#Rockets adjustment: Wood higher on PnR coverage, even mixing Blue/ICE (force ball-handler sideline). He has both the length to contest and lateral quickness to stand firm on drives (last clip). Key against long-range shooters, especially on high PnR, is to crowd and be physical.
Post-up: Better technique as the game went on. After the catch, want to have arm bar (without extending) to deny deeper positioning. The other arm (outer) will be raised. Wood's advantage will be his length, not necessarily his strength. He must compete harder before the catch.
I asked Christian Wood about his strengths, where he can improve defensively: "I think my post-defense could definitely get a little better. I messed up a little bit of the coverages. I was on the help-side helping [teammates] out. I think my length, being able to switch onto..."
Stephen Silas on Wood defensively: "These shooting guards coming off these pindowns, it's really a hard job to be able to be all the way up to take those away, but then not let the rollers roll below you. Also contending with guys that are bigger & stronger in the post." #Rockets
