Trump is a historically ineffectual President when it comes to policy. But he’s been historically successful in the sense that his policy failures have had minimal impact on his popularity with voters. This can be attributed largely to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News’s long game. https://twitter.com/mattglassman312/status/1343388723052994560
Given that Trump’s presidency has been a mashup of Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover, and Richard Nixon’s greatest hits of cruelty, ineffectiveness, and corruption, you’d think it would have cost him some votes.
Instead, roughly 11 million MORE people voted for him in 2020 than 2016.
To clarify, Trump’s marquis “successes” in the eyes of standard GOP voters are almost entirely Mitch McConnell’s doing—the right wing judges and the tax giveaway. His economic “successes” are just the economy working independent of any actual actions Trump took.
