Thread on Hitagi Senjougahara and why she is my favorite character of all time

Hitagi senjougahara is a character i admire and hold dear more than any other character i have ever come across. Her arc throughout monogatari is one that resonates and impacts me the most. It's a lot more subtle compared to the other characters, there's no one "big" moment that

sets her apart. It's more of a gradual and slow change on her part, which is probably my favorite thing about it. We don't just magically get over our trauma,we don't come to love ourselves and others in the blink of an eye. That's why when she has little moments after being gone

for a long amount of time she has changed from the last time we saw her. It's a subtle change but it's made explicit by the characters around her and how she conducts herself that she is slowly but surely moving forward. Her arc going from a scared little girl who was too afraid

to let people in her life and get close to her, for her to be able to find love and friends she is able to care for is so inspiring to me. Her friendship with hanekawa is a prime example of this, her being worried to death over hanekawa and searching for her and when she finally

Finds her shes cries for her not shielding or hiding herself and her emotions but letting them out and exposing herself to hanekawa inviting her to her home. This shows how much she has changed as a person and is continuing to change.

Her meeting with black hanekawa is the peak of her friendship with hanekawa. Despite knowing that touching her will drain her life force, she does it without hesitation or any second thoughts, Entrusting hanekawa to black hanekawa.

This comes full circle in a beautiful way when in hitagi end when she sucks it up and requests kaiki to save araragi. This leading into her coming to terms with her history with kaiki and finally being able to thank him for saving her life is my favorite moment ever.

Safe to say her and araragi have my favorite dynamic in the series because of that too. Their conversations are few and spread out but they are so rich with character it honestly doesn't even feel like she's been gone for a long time.

"You can never be special, but you can be special in the eyes of someone else" is again one of my favorite dialogue in the series as to how accurately it portrays their relationship and what it does for araragi. The entire phone call between araragi and hitagi is just masterful.

It's amazing just how well it puts in to perspective the growth of their relationship and how far they have come as a couple and as a person. Hitagi understanding araragi's situation and araragi appreciating the nuance in hitagi's things just shows how much chemistry they have.

The ending of zokuowari reaffirms everything ive said when araragi is lamenting over not being sure about how to move forward in the next step of his life but hitagi just takes his hand and leaps forward as araragi described it "Not like a kangaroo, like a frog".

Her journey from the start of the series from her being a scared girl afraid to let people get close to her to the end of the series where she truly has opened up to people, fallen in love, found friends that she is willing to do anything and everything for.

With her witty dialogue, her constant bickering and insane screen presence on top it's hard not to love her. She shines as bright as deneb, altair, vega in the night sky, Someone i look up to, someone i wish to be more like, someone who is a beacon of hope and comfort for me.
