Jan 1st is the deadline for the Future of Conflict postdoc @CrisisGroup & @ESoConflict. Here’s why PhD conflict researchers who care about policy should apply... #EconTwitter #PoliSciTwitter https://jobs.crisisgroup.org/o/postdoctoral-fellowship-on-the-future-of-conflict-with-empirical-studies-of-conflict-project
Too often, scholarly research and policymaking operate in parallel worlds. In 2014, @rglenner wrote eloquently about how PhD candidates might decide between these very different career paths. http://runningres.com/blog/2014/1/13/policy-versus-academic-jobs-in-economics
When I did my own postdoc @ESoConflict @PrincetonSPIA in 2015-16, I wanted to bridge that gap and work with leading experts from both worlds on ending deadly conflict. @JacobNShapiro, @RobBlecher and I created the FoC postdoc fellowship to help others do just that.
Now in its 5th year, FoC fellows are jointly hosted @CrisisGroup & @ESoConflict. They spend 1-2 years translating their research into policy insights and their policy insights into research, while learning from @CrisisGroup’s country analysts and @ESoConflict’s academic network.
Previous fellows @micasviatschi @renardsexton @anoukrigterink and current fellows @JaneEsberg @UlrichJEberle and Kevin Mazur are doing cutting-edge empirical research on conflict issues. Many examples here: https://esoc.princeton.edu/projects/future-conflict
FoC has 3 priority themes: the economic causes and consequences of conflict, the relationship between climate change and conflict, and the role of new technologies in conflict. If you are on the job market this cycle and working on any of these issues, please apply by Friday!
