After I wrote a book on spiritual disciplines, I get a little twitchy at all the “read through the Bible in a year” goals. We tend to view our spiritual goals as hyper-individualistic. May I suggest we cast our vision towards goals that will build up the church around you?
1/
Gather a group and study a book of the Bible together.

Ask some friends if you can memorize a great chapter, line Romans 8 together. Quote it to each other when you’re discouraged.

Think about taking sermon notes.

Consider how you can love your neighbor better.

2/
Resolve to call a friend and tell them what you read in the Bible that day, as a means of encouraging them.

Play the Bible on audio for your kids in the car.

Pray for your enemies.

Spiritual disciplines are meant to build up the body of Christ, not just the individual.
