I wasn’t able to watch the Bulls game last night, but I heard Wendell Carter had a good offensive game. I went back this morning and watched the first quarter, in which he only takes ONE shot, and wrote notes about his other activity. Thread:
First 3 defensive possessions of the game, Wendell with strong contests at the rim, affected it twice. Next possession, Wendell good help and contest on Toscano, then fakes and dunks on Wiseman.
Next defensive, Wendell gets fingers on a Curry layup and affects it, but still goes in. He’s looking very engaged so far. Wendell on his next defensive possession gets a strong contest on Wiggins drive, Wiggins misses bad which leads to coast to coast P Will dunk.
Wendell passes too hard on a Zach back-cut, but good look. Wendell picks up Wiseman and boxes out on Curry 3, grabs tough rebound which leads to transition Coby layup.
Then he boxes out on next possession which gets Zach an easy rebound, then gets deep position on Wiseman and draws a foul. Man, Wendell has 2 points at this point but has positively affected almost every possession. We need this activity from him.
Wendell grabs board off GSW missed FT, but gets shoved out of bounds lol and the refs don’t catch it. Then another strong contest on Looney, actually cleanly blocks his shot but Otto fouled Looney. Carter runs back in transition and picks up rebound off Oubre’s missed shot.
Wendell gets subbed out around 4:30 in the first. I guarantee you, other than the dunk, nobody casually watching this game would notice how huge WCJ’s first stint was for the team. He was doing all the little things. Great to see him return to this level of activity.
