I posted a mini rant about my frustration w/ the bias against community colleges b/c my daughter has her sights set on med school one day & there is concern attending a CC will disadvantage her. I just came across this, which shows her concern is valid: https://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/why-the-community-college-discrimination.1366287/
To be clear, my daughter is an outstanding student. AP classes, top 7% SAT score, college acceptance at good 4-years is not the issue here. The bias is the issue. She could go to my CC for free for two years to reduce debt but how much will she be "looked down on"?
So many wonderful responses to my rant about good experiences at CCs. We know this. We know the quality of the gen ed classes can be just as good or better than 4 years. But that doesn't matter when it's all about the bias held by people who aren't familiar with CCs.
The view that community colleges are lower quality institutions of higher ed is pushed in the media (movies, television) and that's really hard to push back against. It just sucks.
