how to support fic writers that you like - a thread
1. kudos and comments! super easy and if you’re already reading their fic(s), might as well!
here are a couple ways you can comment. there are so many more ways but if you find yourself at a loss for words, try these!
no matter how short or long your comment is, they will always be appreciated by authors! the instant serotonin that authors get when they receive that email is not affected by the length of the comment!
or maybe you would like to leave reaction comments where you basically live tweet while reading but in the comments! it can be a hassle to switch between a notepad and the ao3 window so check out this extension! https://twitter.com/kindlestuck/status/1297359850553270272
now, by leaving kudos and comments, you’ve already done more than enough! but if you want to take it further, keep reading this thread
2. subscribe to your author!

this way you can see when they post new fics! some authors don’t check their stats but others get really happy when they realize people want to keep up with their content
3. follow them on their socials!

not every author has twitter, etc but if they link their accounts in their fics, it can’t hurt to give them a follow and support their fics as they go. also following authors can be fun because you’ll often get sneak previews or update notices
4. rt their fic posts!

super easy way to support an author. if you found their fic on ao3, you can put the fic URL in the twitter search bar to see if the author made a post. it’s also great because you might miss out on a moodboard or other content otherwise!
5. rt their commissions post/ko-fi links

not every author will have these, but it’s so helpful to boost them because ao3 does not allow promotion of ko-fis or commissions (and reasonably so!)

you can usually find these posts in their carrd or pinned
6. commission them or buy them a coffee!

you obviously do not have to do this but if you want to, it can make an author’s day! it’s like a tip for good service and the service is good fic
7. create media for their fic!

you may want to ask permission for this but things like moodboards, fan art, podfics, trailers, etc. are great gifts to give to an author if you have the time/ability and are definitely very appreciated
8. reach out in their CC!

you can leave them an additional message or ask them questions that you may have for their fic(s)

note: please don’t send requests unless an author asks for them!
once again these are all optional and if you don’t want to do any of these you don’t have to!

i might have missed something so feel free to let me know ^^
