Short thread on current situation:
I agree with a lot of Lampard supporters that you shouldn't make result based analysis, at least not in small sample sizes. "Even Klopp loses games! Klopp out?"
Bad results didnt convince me that Lampard isn't the man, they only confirmed what I already knew. Last season when Lampard was making countless tactical and managerial mistakes people turned a blind eye to it out of result based analysis.
Every time a problem was pointed out they would say "we won, who cares". But in football there are many factors that affect results, a team may win individual games despite a bad manager but the manager's negative effect will be seen in long term results.
You can probably predict long term results if you determine whether the manager is good or bad. Maybe we beat Arsenal 2-1 but that doesnt change the fact that:
- we played terrible
- Lampard doesnt have a system
- is a terrible pragmatist (if you think system isnt important)
- relies on crosses for chance creation
- can't organize a press
- plays Mount out of position
- forces Mount into the team
- mistreats Pulisic and Giroud
- misuses players by not protecting them and leaving them exposed tactically
And since that 2-1 win vs Arsenal we drew once, then lost a cup final to them, then lost to their youth team. How's that for long term success.
There was also the easy option of understanding that a manager with 1 year of experience in football management without education from a superior wouldn't make it. What did you rely on? His IQ numbers?
One last thing. Just because a top manager like Klopp or Pep is getting bad results doesnt mean they are doing a good job. They are both underperforming right now
