These spin doctors masquerading as journalist’s mission in life seems to be the peddling of falsehoods to eulogize the corrupt political elite.

To look at his claims, let’s see what Murtaza Bhutto’s daughter Fatima Bhutto says about who actually killed her father:

Thread:

/1
“Mummy was in the kitchen cooking & I went into my parents’ bedroom & sat with Zulfi as he watched TV on the bed.. We were speaking when I heard the gunfire. It was a single shot & it sounded very close. I moved the phone from my ear & waited to see if Zulfi had heard it..”

/2
“..The sound was still ringing in my ears when several seconds later, the echo of the first shot was interrupted by a barrage of bullets. They were coming from right outside the window; I could hear the shooting as if the guns were firing over our heads..”

/3
“..I carried him, skinny 6year old Zulfi, into the dressing room, a small windowless corridor. I slammed the door shut and went over to the bathroom door.. We waited for a few seconds. It had stopped. I told Zulfi to wait for me; I was going to check where our mother was..”

/4
“..As I st ood up, Mummy burst into the bedroom screaming. ‘We’re here!’ I yelled and she threw open the door to the dressing room instantly pulling me into her arms and pulling Zulfi up off the floor.‘ Let’s go to the drawing room, ’Mummy said, breathing quickly..”

/5
“..We sat in the drawing room for close to half an hour, waiting. The shooting had stopped & we asked our chowkidar, our gatekeeper, to check outside & tell us what had happened. The area was thronged with police, he said. They wouldn’t let him out of the house..”

/6
“..It was past 8 in the evening & he should’ve been back home, but we tried not to worry. I grew more agitated with every minute. Not for one instant did I imagine Papa had been hurt . Maybe he’d been arrested & the firing was police signalling their victory..”

/7
“..It must’ve been close to 9,
45mins later, when I’d had enough. I couldn’t wait any longer.

I told Mummy I was calling my aunt, the Prime Minister. By that point I was convinced Benazir had had Papa arrested & I wasn’t going to sit by while my father was taken to jail..”

/8
“..Can I speak to my aunt please?’ I was curt, but he kept speaking.‘Is your family OK? Is everyone fine? ’Yes, yes, I responded.

Satisfied with my grunts & promises that everything was fine, the ADC (to PM) put me on hold..”

/9
“..Hello? Wadi?’ I said, calling my aunt the name only I used for her.

‘No, she can’t come to the phone right now,’ came the reply. It was (Asif Ali) Zardari.

It was no secret that none of us in the family liked Asif Zardari, my aunt’s oleaginous husband..”

/10
“..‘I need to speak to my aunt,’ I said tersely, not wanting to speak to Zardari.

‘You can’t,’ he replied, equally brusque.

‘It’s very important, I need to speak with her now.’

‘She can’t come to the phone right now,’ Zardari replied..”

/11
“It’s very important & I don’t want to talk to you, I need to talk to her, I insisted, my voice quickening. I’d wasted enough time on this ph call already.

‘She can’t speak, she’s hysterical’ Zardari replied. As if on cue, there was a loud wailing sound in the background..”

/12
“.. It had been quiet before, with no indication that anyone was in the room with Zardari & all of a sudden there was an almost desperate crying shattering the silence.

‘What? No, I have to speak with her, please put her on the phone,’ I continued,..”

/13
“..growing confused at what seemed like a theatrical attempt to keep me from talking to the one person who was in charge.

‘Oh, don’t you know?’ (Asif) Zardari responded.
‘Your father’s been shot.’..”

/14
“..Asif Zardari was on the phone. ‘Don’t you know?’ he said casually to me.
‘Your father’s been shot.’

I dropped the phone. My body went numb & cold & my heart beat so hard it drowned out everything around me. Mummy picked up the phone. She saw my face, I looked ashen..”

/15
“..She must have known something was terribly wrong though I couldn’t get the words out to say anything or even look at her. She screamed

I don’t remember what she said. I was frozen to my chair, Papa’s green armchair.
It must be the arm, I kept telling myself..”

/16
“..Why would Zardari tell me, a fourteen-year-old girl, that my father had been shot if it had been serious?

I couldn’t breathe.

Mummy must have called for the car. The next thing I knew she was running towards the door..”

/17
“..Asghar says that he heard my father speaking after the shooting. He heard him say, ‘They got us, Zardari & Abdullah Shah’ – the Chief Minister of Sindh –

‘finally got us..’ Asif says he heard it too.

I’ve never been able to concentrate on Papa’s dying declaration..”

/18
“..They weren’t his last words, not for me at least, they meant something larger.
That he was speaking at all meant, up until that point, that Papa was OK. He was alive.

Ashiq got out of the driver’s seat & holding his arm.. tried again, in vain, to call for help..”

/19
“..Qaisar & Asif Jatoi tell me separately they saw the police approach my father. ‘We were lying on the road, ’Qaisar tells me.. we saw Mir baba being taken out of the car.
I saw blood on his clothes, but he was strong. He got out of the car on his own and walked..”

/20
“..‘Mir baba was fine at that point,’

‘He didn’t even need to lean on anyone.

The police’ Asif (Jatoi) remembers the group including Rai Tahir, Shukaib Qureshi & Shahid Hayat
‘told Mir baba that they were going to take him to hospital & he walked over to the police car..”

/21
“..He got into the open back section, where the policemen sit & the APC drove off.
As it neared Do Talwar, it stopped. We heard a single shot. Then it drove off again.’

It was the last shot that killed my father. He had been injured, but he would have survived..”

/22
“..He was walking & talking. It would take more than one bullet to kill Papa & the policemen made sure that the last bullet did the job.

The last shot, Papa’s autopsy showed, was fired into his jaw at point-blank range. It was fired, forensics confirmed,..”

/23
“..by a gunman standing over him as he lay down in the police car.

Ashiq was still in the car after Papa had been taken away by the police.

Asif Jatoi was lying down on the road when he heard Wajid Durrani & Shukaib Qureshi speaking..
‘Isko khatam karna,’ finish him off..”

/24
“..The street outside our house was hosed clean; all the blood & glass was washed away.

By the time Mummy & I left the house at around 8.45, some 15 minutes later, the police had removed all the evidence.”

/25
“..Somewhere around 3 in the morning, while Mummy was still at hospital waiting for the autopsy to be completed & for Papa’s body to be released so she could bring him home, the PM came to Mideast.

Benazir flew from the Prime Minister’s residence in Islamabad to Karachi..”

/26
“She was accompanied by Wajid Durrani, one of the shooters that night who’s seen saluting her in many of photos taken of her arrival..

Abdullah Shah the CM of Sindh (father of current CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah) another accused in the murder, would also be by Benazir’s side..”

All of the above are direct quoted excerpts from the book:

“Song of Blood & Sword” written by Fatima Bhutto, the daughter of Mir Murtaza Bhutto.

/28
Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, the President of #Pakistan at the time later gave a public interview placing on record, how Benazir Bhutto & Asif Ali Zardari paid him a visit where Asif Zarsari explicitly told him:
“It’s either him (Murtaza Bhutto) or me.”

/29
Sindh Police was working under direct order of the PPP’s CM Sindh at the time.

No police officers was reprimanded or punished by then PPP govt, with Benazir as PM or by the later PPP govt when Asif Ali Zardari himself became the president.

/30
On the contrary many of the police officers who took part in the episode that night were rewarded by PPP govts..

Even CM Sindh Syed Abdullah Shah’s son Syed Murad Ali Shah was rewarded as Sindh’s Finance Minister & then as the CM of Sindh.

He’s the current PPP CM Sindh.
