‘The discourse’ on here is so frustrating to read.

To the main point; is it indulgent to do 3 pages of this in a 20 pg superhero comic? Yes.

Does that mean you ‘shouldn’t do it’? Of course not.
Splash pages are indulgent, double page spreads are indulgent, 9 panel grids are indulgent, silent panels are indulgent, etc, etc.

Any narrative and visual tool can be indulgent; IT DEPENDS HOW YOU USE THEM.
What I find most frustrating about all this is the tendency of some creators on here to act like snide, shitty trolls. Professionals whose work I have great respect for, who make some valid points but in the most bad faith ways. You’re not being cool, you’re being annoying.
And I’m not just talking about the original poster, LOTS do it on here and it just makes me want to unfollow everyone but then I’ll miss out on all your lovely art.
There’s nothing wrong with constructive criticism even between pros. Can’t we all just cut it with the ‘hot takes’?
Addendum; I was told the comic in question was 40 pages, not 20, so the critique would seem less warranted. That considered did the OP even read the comic?

Another thought: if we haven’t actually read/seen a comic, book, movie, etc maybe we should just not comment on it.
