I'm only halfway through Bridgerton and what is most striking is that it really *feels* like a romance novel on the page. I was talking with @BestFriendKelly this morning about why, and we think it's bc it portrays their attraction is both small & big ways. #Bridgerton

FWIW, I think the sexiest thing so far, and one that I do not think was in the book, is Simon telling Daphne how to touch herself. Obviously, it was hot, but also, it's intimate and between them, catching that interiority.
Female gaze, obviously, is a big one. This scene where he rolls up his sleeves is RIDICULOUS.
It's really clear to me that Lady Whistledown and secondary characters who are watching Daphne & Simon's romance are serving as a proxy for us as readers.
It's hard to describe why it feels different, but it's something about this.

I really want to return to escalating physical touch as a romance hallmark. 2 scenes in particular, one of which I can't find as gif, and it shocks the hell out of me. The part where he feels her back with his skinned knuckles from fighting.
And then later, when they are supposed to promenade and she grabs his hand and he jerks away!
I really find the Hallmark Christmas movies that end with like...a chaste kiss to be wholly unsatisfying. Because I think it's a weird place to land as the beginning and end point for a romance. Kissing is great. But it's not usually where it starts or ends.
