As I’ve stated before, I really liked WW84, and while I 100% hear the criticisms as valid, I’d like to invite you to reconsider the strict scrutiny that women-led movies get put under in the name of feminism.
People don’t seem to understand the leads’ motives or say they’re not empowering. But these characters do not exist for you necessarily to feel empowered.

Honestly, I’m sick of “yay, women empowerment” hyper-individualistic women-needs-no-one-and-has-no-issues BS
Consider this: it is sexist to assume that the “best” woman has no problems, is nothing but an empowering goddess without any attachments, and doesn’t feel any insecurity or self-doubt.
Oh you didn’t think the Barbera Minerva storyline was fun and empowering to women, and therefore unrealistic? We get it, you were hot growing up and don’t know what it’s like to feel lost in your body & have no one truly see you.

Did I hate the take glasses off =
Hot trope? Duh
I don’t think it’s unrealistic for an individual to love someone from long ago - especially when that someone violently died to save them.

Alll y’all love to talk about trauma until it interferes with your feminist empowerment movie watching?
So that’s my take. Putting movies who were directed by women, starring multiple women under more scrutiny than movies about or starring men is still sexist as hell. We can and should enjoy movies about women even if the characters aren’t perfect.
I understand my opinion basically doesn’t exist on the internet, and I’m not trying to convince anyone to like the movie; rather, to recognize that “this isn’t empowering” is not a good take as it’s still sexist to judge women characters by how empowering they are
Anyway tagging @BechdelCast just so they know at least one intersectional feminist actually did like WW84 and sees the reactions from others as problematic, even if they’re valid 😅
