I love how they design the opening of #MrQueen. Let’s admit it — it’s cute and creative. But what impress me the most is these little details and symbolisms in the opening.

First of all, this picture looks like the chef is a fish on a hook. Not only that this animation clearly depicts the situation of the chef in the beginning (when the ambassador finds a hook in the food he prepares), but also shows the he is in big trouble —

#MrQueen #철인왕후
—removed from his post, finding himself inhabiting the body of the soon-to-be queen So Yong, and most of all about to get killed by someone while his body is in a comatose state. Indeed, Bong Hwan is on a hook.
How clever it is that the first thing that falls off is the chef’s hat (indicating that he first lose his job) then his clothes (like what happened in the third and fourth picture).

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Second, of course, is the kiss. I still do not understand the reason why So Yong kissed Bong Hwan, but I feel that it is one of the means that caused the queen and the chef to swap bodies.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
I remember a manga series, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, where a delinquent has swapped bodies with the ace student, and later found out that the kiss triggers the body swap.

Third. The graphic shows the place where the queen jump *spoiler* to kill herself — the lake. However, the picture on the right is not the same night when the queen tried to jump to the lake. Instead, it was on episode three where Byeong In —

— brings So Yong (the chef) back to the palace after his fight scenes with the king. Despite that, I think that the details in these pictures might have a meaning, one of these is the moon.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
We know that the moon has been moon symbolism has been used in numerous KDramas to foretell events in the story, and I believe that Mr. Queen is also using that symbolism to convey something. Here we can see a crescent moon on the right side of both pictures.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
However, both are also different since the opening animation shows a waning crescent moon while the scene from the third episode shows a waxing crescent. I am not sure if they intend to make the one waning and the other waning because the two have different meanings.

#MrQueen
The waxing crescent moon (right pic) signifies accomplishment while the waning crescent moon (left pic) signifies surrender and parting with someone or something.

Another detail in this picture is the water lilies. As you can see, there are no water lilies shown in the lake (not like what is drawn in the opening). The flower may be added for aesthetic purposes, but might also used as a symbol of transformation.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Water lilies can put itself down so that it goes under the water and then transforms itself into a fruit while being submerged. Just like the queen, after jumping to the lake, she transforms into someone else (Bong Hwan).

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Fourth. The queen (Bong Hwan) wearing a bridal headdress. I do not see any symbolism here, so let’s move to the next one. ⬇️
Fifth. We can see the king and queen’s shadow on the window. But what catches my attention is the flowers and the butterflies design. If you noticed, several shot and conversations about butterflies appear in the drama.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Example is this butterfly-designed divider and the joke in episode three.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
“So, ajumma, is there also a symbolism to the butterfly?”

Well, butterflies represents spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope and life. Just like my explanation about the water lilies, So Yong was “reborn and transformed” to a brazen-faced queen (Bong Hwan).

#MrQueen
Other than that, butterflies also symbolizes joy (we often see butterflies when there is a funny scene like when the king and queen slept together and the joke mentioned in the previous tweet), messengers that guide people through life, and short life/passing of a loved one
(maybe hinting that someone in this drama will die?? lol I’m not sure about this hahaha but despite its comedy genre, it is still a sageuk drama sooooo)

#MrQueen #철인왕후
By the way, I am not knowledgeable about the different kinds of butterflies, so I do not know what is the meaning of the types of butterflies shown in the drama’s opening. Please tell if you know the names 🤧
Sixth. We can see a woman sitting (who I assumed to be So Yong because it looks a lot like the dress she wore when she jumped in the lake [check the picture of the next tweet]) while a cherry blossom petal falls down.

#MrQueen #철인왕후
We often see cherry blossom in #MrQueen like when the king was first introduced to us (the scene when he is reading an adult book) and when a flower petal fell to So Yong (Bong Hwan’s shoulder).

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Seventh. The reason why I love #MrQueen — the food 😍. Can you spot the dishes that our Mr. Queen has prepared in the past episodes? Looking forward to see the other mouthwatering foods in the future.
Eighth. We can see that the queen is shooting arrows (which we know a skill that Bong Hwan is inept). I do not know what type of flower is shown here, so I do not know if it has any meaning or anything 😕

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Ninth. The king, bamboo, and a full moon. The bamboo symbolizes the king in the way that both looks weak but strong. The bamboo may not be big like other trees, but it has great strength (in fact, it is considered to be more stronger than steel and concrete).

#MrQueen #철인왕후
Like a bamboo, the king might look weak and dumb (for he is known as a puppet king), but we know that it is just and act and he hides his strong aspects to secretly prepare a reform.
