I'm going to break my current "radio silence" to try and explore something. Yesterday I got something wrong here. It was made abundantly clear in the response to my comment how wrong I was. I have deleted my comment, because I feel that was the right thing to do. However,
one of my thoughts in relation to this is that once again, people who are in positions of power (it's very relative, also) often have little real understanding of those without that power, of how their behaviour impacts upon those others. We're all guilty of this to some-
-greater or lesser extent. The phrase, "check your privilege" springs to mind. It's very easy to tell someone to make an official complaint. It gets you off the hook for actually dealing with the real human being in distress. You've told them what to do without recognising-
-that there may be many impediments to following that course of action. An example (not related to yesterday) is that of raising concerns about abuses of power within a large organisation. There's a reason why whistleblowers are a relatively rare beast: you risk everything-
to blow that whistle. You are in the end potentially a sacrificial victim. Criticism of any organisation is vital to its health, both from within and without. If people are too afraid to voice concerns, abuses and neglect will continue unchecked until a critical mass-
-of damaged souls is reached & complete collapse is a real potential. The abuses and so on within church organisations is a prime example of this; so much has been about the hushing up of victims rather than dealing with the abusers. The cumulative effect of this is devastating-
-and damages not just the structure that exists, but also the innocent bystanders. There needs to be a culture of complete integrity. Everywhere. Anyway, all this is making me very ill & I need to step away. I'll be back when I have got myself sorted, but I thank you-
-for reading and for thinking about this. I know some folks have been worried, and bless you for that.
