ace spent the first years of his childhood hearing nothing but how he should just die and he doesn’t deserve to live bc he carries the blood of a demon, & luffy was prolly the first one to tell him he wants ace to live so for the longest time luffy was ace’s source of acceptance
maybe thats why luffy is so important to ace, and thats why ace cant stop talking about his little brother bc for the first time he actually found a reason to live when luffy asked him not to die, bc if he died luffy would be all alone
but when ace was hrs away from execution, he didn’t have any regrets if he died even if that meant leaving his little brother bc he knew luffy wasnt helpless anymore and that he had his nakama so ace thought, even if he’d die his brother would be all right
though in the end, ace’s only regret was he didn’t get to see his brother fulfill his dream, but luffy will definitely become the pirate king, the news will echo around the world so loud it’ll reach the heavens and ace
