I believe coaches, at their core, are psychologists. They might coach baseball or football but they tend to also be mental magicians.

Oh, they believe in themselves. They believe things are eventually going to work out in their favor but only because they doubt themselves in the moment.
Working tirelessly on your craft begins with this small, subtle nudge that says “You’re not good enough.”

And then, God forbid, these PESSIMISTS become fathers. The “Social Police” demand affirmation and praise.
Oh that’s important. They gotta believe in themselves. But... there’s always work to do for the PESSIMIST.

It’s not only true in sports it’s true in school too.
Great “students” worry they’re going to fail a math test because they study every contingency a professor could ask. Pessimists
Average students don’t doubt themselves. They don’t study deeply. They’ve got this. Optimist.

It’s one of the many reasons I’m so much in favor or re-testing in school.
Teachers believe ONE MOMENT IN TIME is an assessment of their knowledge when many times it’s an assessment of their outlook on life.
Next time you’re at a stop sign, ask “What would a pessimist do?”
