How I view this deal. 1) About Blake: his great performances pretty well speak for themselves. Having said that, he's always wasted a lot of pitches, has rarely ever gone deep into games as a result (in his career, not just Game 6), and at times was vocal about FO moves. 2) Luis Patiño is the best player in this deal. I know, I know, he doesn't have a Cy young and didn't dominate Game 6, but he is (health willing) the most talented player in this deal. How much do I LOVE this guy? Imo, he has Pedro Martinez potential. He's electric. (2 of 7)
3) Some people think Mejia (25) is washed up as a C prospect. He's not. Just one season ago, he managed a .756 OPS in #MLB. #Rays C OPS in 2020? A measly .568, so he - at a min - could elevate that OPS a few hundred points. Catchers often hit their stride at 28-30. (3 of 7)
4) #Rays also acquired a potential great D C in Blake Hunt. Reminds me of Mike Zunino. Whether or not he pans out as a C depends on how well his shoulder holds up. Has a solid .258/.341/.384 & could join fellow ex- #Padres C Logan Driscoll as a potential C tandem in A+. (4 of 7)
5) Imo, Wilcox is what brings deal in #Rays direction vs #Padres direction. Ok, so #Rays got Patino who slots right into rotation day one, got a C/1B/DH that amps up their lineup, get to dream on Hunt, AND they land a guy with plus plus fastball & plus changeup? Goodness (5 of 7)
6) Don't be fooled by draft position of Wilcox. He got a bigger signing bonus than Jered Kelley for a reason - his potential is an ace. People question effort in delivery, I say hogwash. They've always said the same about Scherzer. Imo, he's a GIANT landing for #Rays (6 of 7)
