A) This is not in direct response to the "FB post" but it did make me think about how council estates are sometimes viewed.
Growing up, I lived on a council estate. I now am a headteacher in a school on the same estate.

B) There are so many assumptions and myths about such estates. These stereotypes have mainly come about due to the media:

1) I promise you there isn't a burnt out car on every other street nor are there unused shopping trollies all over the place.

4) It's true that materialistically, generally, people in such estates have less than those that do not live in them. But some of the most generous people I have ever had the opportunity to work/grow up with live in such areas...

I have been humbled to tears by the generosity of the families that I have the privilege to work with.
5) Although it can also been seen as a negative, everybody knows everybody. The community spirit is incredible.....

The negative rehtoric around the area I grew up in and now work for is damaging and limiting for those that live in them.

It's important that all children and adults feel that they can succeed and that they can be whatever they choose to be. Not be predefined and thier path predetermined by where they live.
