I had really high expectations for rose of Versailles and I'm happy that it did not disappoint. Ikeda and dezaki's combination worked really well in both onisama e and rov. Needless to say the dramatic visual direction of the show was amazing and brought life to ikeda's writing.

aristocracy, gender roles, transient nature of power, responsibility,power of the masses and more.Oscar is a Character that can sympathize with both sides which is why there couldn't be a better protagonist for the story. Her internal struggles of duty Vs moral calling,....
gender identity, romance tho not expanded upon in depth were brilliantly translated amidst all the chaos. I love the fact that Marie was one of the main characters of the story which gave me the perspective of the history's bad guy.
The romance subplot was excellently Handled as well. Character and costume designs were great. I did a little comparison and the dresses also seem to have historical accuracy to me.
The essence of the anime is in the last few lines of the opening theme :
"The rose, the rose blooms nobly
The rose, the rose perishes beautifully"
I can see why it is still revered as a masterpiece and rightfully so. It is a beautiful tragedy indeed
