Sri Kailayamudaiyar Temple, Chozhamadevi; Chozha's one of the most important, but a lesser known Temple, built by Sri Rajaraja in his 8th reginal year.

The village, as per the inscriptions, "Thenkarai Brahmadeyam Chozhamadevi Chadurvedimangalam", is a tax-free grant to Brahmanas
Temple's main Deity Lord Shiva is named "Kailayamudaiyar".

Temple's outerwall has beautiful sculptures of manifestation of Lord Shiva, Bikshadana & Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma & Vishnu Durga!

Dakshinamurthy sculpture is completely in a decapitated state!
Temple has 10+ inscriptions of Rajaraja, Rajendra & Veerarajendra, both in Tamil & Grantha!

A Tamil/Grantha inscription of ViraRajendra talks abt grants to a teacher who teaches Adi Shankara Bhagawatpada's Brahmasutra Bhashya’s commentary written by One Chidananda Pidarar..
...this inscription is seen as one of the earliest known references to Shri Adi Shankaracharya & his work Brahmasutra Bhashya, which, in this inscription, is referred as "Saareerakabhashya"!
One of Rajaraja's inscription talks about "Uyyakondan water board" constituted by Rajaraja with members from local Gram Sabha.

Uyyakondan Canal was built by Rajaraja, renovated by Kulotunga, irrigates around 40,000 acres of lands in Trichy/Tanjore & feeds over 50 tanks.
Another inscription that talks about grants to one "Thirumalirunjolai Alwar Temple" dedicated to Vishnu in the same village, where Gram Sabha meets to take administrative decisions.

Unfortunately this Temple is no longer there in the village.
Reignal* year.
