The feeling of not doing enough as it pertains to accidental poising... over the last two years I have lost several people to this public health crisis. I am a Police Officer, which in some people’s books precludes me from being a part of harm reduction. I feel that I did not
Reach out enough, that I did not try hard enough to get people to the proper treatment options. I feel that in my position as a police Officer I did not do enough to ensure that my friends were able to access what they needed. I have spent time talking to Mom’s, Partners, Kids,
and other family members of people that died from accidental poisoning of psychoactive substances and I still have no good answers. I know and realize that there is evidence that we need to use in order to reduce the loss. To make it less common to tell family members of people
who use drugs that their family member has died. It is time that we focus on the concept of Community Safety and Wellbeing. Focus on change in the system and how we as system actors need to see things very differently. From a friend of people that have lost their lives
and a police officer, we need to change the system. Less criminalization of people who use drugs, more understanding of harm reduction and more interaction from all systems to improve the situation for people who use drugs and their families @CANdrugpolicy @ehyshka @JournalCSWB
