After leaving Anandpur Guru Gobind Singh's, (the 10th Guru of Sikhs) family was attacked near Ropar. Guru Gobind Singh, two of his older sons and some others escaped the attackers.

His wife, mother and two minor sons were segregated from him.
Battle of Chamkaur, took place between Mughal Troops and the Guru's remaining band, the two older boys and all his followers were slain. Guru Gobind Singh Ji escaped...

He was survived by two Pashtun horse-dealers, Nabi Khan and Ghani Khan. +
They portrayed the 10th Guru as a Muslim Pir to a Mughal patrol looking for him. As Pashtuns, Nabi Khan and Ghani Khan may have had reservations regarding Mughal rule but they responded to the Guru's plight.
 
Shock followed escape. +
As the Guru learned his minor sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh had been put to death by Wazir Khan, Mughal faujdar of the sarkar of Sirhind, bricking them alive in Sirhind town and the grandmother died of shock...+
The Muslim ruler of Malerkotla, Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan protested the killing of the boys. Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan wrote to Aurangzeb a strong letter and requested him to stop this cruel act...but his letter never reached Aurangzeb.

The tyrant Wazir Khan paid no heed and coloured his hands red with the blood of the innocent children.

Later, Aurangzeb tried to conciliate, sending a representative with a letter. Guru Gobind Singh's response to this was the well-known 'Zafarnama'.

Remembering Nabi Khan, Ghani Khan and Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan's undying love for humanity (irrespective of the religion) can never be forgotten. +
Hatred can never conquer the world this power only resides in compassion and tolerance which Guru Gobind Singh Ji displayed.
