Therapists aren’t magicians. They can’t, in any short amount of time, undo and heal ongoing family and societal systems and intergenerational pain and trauma with one simple solution. Family secrets, taboos, and silence won’t help.
I’ve also found for myself at least that psychotherapy, talk therapy, and CBT weren’t very helpful in the long run. My physical responses to stress could cancel thought replacing and thought stopping in the blink.
Reflective listening and validating weren’t even enough.
It’s also true that good therapists will make it so they’re unnecessary in the long run with many people. And that community and family support cannot be replaced.
