#COVIDー19 is just a mirror to why Health Care in the United States is simply classism warfare. A thread.....
My name is Prisca. I live in the Midwest and I do not have a car. I have a roommate. This past week my roommate tested positive for Covid. She has the side affects and everything. She got tested at @cvspharmacy from her car. She’s been quarantined ever since....
As her roommate I wanted to get tested. Again, I do not have a car. Also I don’t have any symptoms so me getting tested (unless I lie about my symptoms) is a little more difficult. Today I went to @cvspharmacy to get tested....their rule (again in the Midwest) is....
I must have a car to get tested. @cvspharmacy in the Midwest is being careful i understand that.....but what if I didn’t have money to buy a car so I could get tested. Symptoms or no, what if....this is a problem and obvious classism. Let’s go further!
Another issue with the #COVIDー19 testing. Did you know there are 15 minute test results? There are. The rich folks have access to them! However us working class still have to wait 3-4- even 10 days for results. These are the tests that @cvspharmacy and @Walgreens have...
In the more higher class suburban areas @cvspharmacy and @Walgreens have 1-3 hour test results. Still not the 15 minute it there.
That being said...as a working class millennial who cannot afford 5 days off work what are we supposed to do? Who benefits from this system? You know...besides the rich (again, the folks who have the access to the 15 minute tests....)
Tomorrow I will go to my city health clinic and find a testing center that caters to my needs, but keep in mind it took me close to a week. Fingers crossed, I’m fine and healthy, but due to my class, I have to wait...
So yes, I have no car, and I can’t afford the rapid fire test...because I don’t have enough money....again #COVIDー19 has exposed that the American health system functions on classism.
No ill will toward @cvspharmacy or @Walgreens, they are doing the best that they can....however the United States Government, that is a different story...
Ok and if I haven’t made it clear, we are almost a week and half in, and I still haven’t been tested. By the time I get tested, wait, and get my results. The virus (if it is in me, again I don’t know) will have already passed. Again....this is America....
